ABOUT
Luke Pitman is a London-based actor, clown and physical comedian whose work blends character comedy, improvisation and audience interaction. Best known for his highly expressive physical performance style, Luke has spent over a decade creating joyful, visually-led theatre, earning acclaim from critics and audiences alike.
Unable to read or write due to his neurodivergence, Luke has developed a unique performance language rooted in movement, clowning and instinctive storytelling. His work celebrates the expressive potential of the body, finding humour, vulnerability and connection beyond words.
Luke began performing with Story Pocket Theatre, where he became a principal performer in the company's acclaimed productions of Arabian Nights, Storyteller Storyteller and King Arthur. These productions toured extensively across the UK and enjoyed multiple successful Edinburgh Fringe runs. His performances have been praised as "an explosion of facial expressions and bodily contortions" (The Scotsman ★★★★), "splendidly physical in a bewildering range of noisy and face-stretching roles" (The Stage ★★★★), and for his "elastic face, skelly-eyed exuberance and masterful morphing clowning" (Edinburgh Guide ★★★★★).
Luke later made his Off West End debut at Jermyn Street Theatre in Neil Koenigsberg's Off the King's Road, directed by Anthony Cohen, performing alongside Michael Brandon, Jeff Rawle and Cherie Lunghi. He has since continued to specialise in devised theatre and physical comedy, touring nationally with the award-winning family show SPLAT!. Over the past year, he has further developed his practice through working with leading clown practitioners including Elf Lyons and Jon Davison, while continuing to train in improvised comedy and devise his own original work.
His debut solo show, The House of Pitman, marks his most personal work to date. Blending clown, character comedy, dance and surreal theatre, the show explores visibility, self-doubt and the pressure to perform through the lens of Luke's own experience navigating a world not designed for someone who cannot read or write.
Following a successful London preview at the Hen & Chickens Theatre ahead of its Edinburgh Festival Fringe premiere, The House of Pitman received a ★★★★ review from The Reviews Hub, which described the show as "ridiculously, utterly, enjoyably stupid", praising Luke's "comedic nonchalance" and noting that "it's easy to overlook Pitman's technical prowess."
The House of Pitman premieres at the ZOO playground at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2026, introducing Luke as one of the most exciting emerging voices in contemporary clown and physical comedy.
